Direita Street

Second oldest street in the city and characterized by its important colonial buildings.

The architectural complex of this street is one of the best preserved in the city.

It is found in it the house of “Barão de Pontal” (former governor of Minas, the 18th) and the century House*, in colonial style, built at the end of the 18th and 19th centuries.

Also noteworthy on “Rua Direita” is the house that belonged to Alphonsus de Guimaraens, where the museum that houses countless belongings of this symbolist poet is now located.

*Casa Setecentista is currently the IPHAN building. Open from Monday to Friday for research in the afternoon.
