Pico da Cartuxa (Mountain)

The “Pico da Cartuxa” is located 4km from the city of Mariana. It is approximately 1343m high.

It has a set of hematite blocks that reach 30m in height and provide several climbing possibilities in different styles, as well as a privileged view of “Serra do Caraça” (Caraça mountain).

One of the advantages of climbing in Cartuxa is that there is drinking water on the way and the approach walk is easy, no more than 20 minutes.

The name Cartuxa comes from a religious order founded by Saint Bruno in 1066.

In this location was the house of Dom Viçoso, former bishop of Mariana, who belonged to this order.

Today the area where the Cartuxa is located is under the responsibility of the Archdiocese of Mariana.
